Monkey D. Grap was born 78 years ago in the Goa Kingdom. He joined the Marines at age 22 along with Tsuru and Sengoku. He eventually made his way up in the ranks to Vice-Admiral eventually a year later he had a son, Monkey D. Dragon.

Around 40 to 38 years during an incident in God's Valley with power, evil and notorious pirate by the name of Rocks D. Xebec who had targeted the World Nobles. He teamed up with Gol. D Roger and his crew to defeat him. The act would earn him the title Hero of the Marines for it. However, the incident about Roger's involvement was covered up.

Because of their tactics, particularly those from the Kingdom of Rakuen he has great dislike for them. He was also disgusted that they were in the process of human trafficking some conquered territories, the fact of the matter was enough that he has lost his faith and loyalty to the Marines and thus resigned and turned traitor hoping to join the Alliance.

Powers and Abilities[]

Garp is a former vice-admiral of the Marines, however he was offered the position of admiral more than once in the past. He is noted to be one of the rivals for the former King of the Pirates Gol D. Roger, one the most powerful pirates in history, cornering and fighting him many times, which earned Garp immense respect from the Marines, and is one of their most powerful fighters. In terms of combat, Garp has had several decades worth of experience, in both combat and navigating the harshest oceans within the volatile "New World". Alongside Roger, he fought and prevailed against the very powerful Rocks Pirates, which consisted of three future Yonkos, earning him the epithet of "Hero of the Marines". Roger also stated that he and Garp had almost killed each other on numerous occasions. As another true testament of sheer power, Garp defeated and nearly killed Don Chinjao in the past with a single punch, whose bounty was worth over 500,000,000 in his prime and was said to be able to split a continent with a headbutt.

The extent of Garp's power and fame is evident round the time of the Battle of Edd War, three years before the future Pirate King died. It was revealed that he was offered the promotion to the rank of admiral more than once, but repeatedly refused the promotion. Garp's subordinate at that time, Kuzan (later promoted to admiral), commented on how cool Garp was for refusing such an irresistible promotion, to which he answers by stating that he does not need a higher position, and that it would reduce his liberty to do what he wants.

Even in his fight with Itan one of the Nine Dark Circles, despite being defeated, he held his own against the Dark Circle, even able to surprise him and land hard hits on him that made him bleed. Even more impressive, Garp was able to survive a direct attack from Itan's Art Hellfire attack Blazing Purgatory, which surprised the Circle and his Court member Yūko, because before Garp nothing had survived against Itan's attack, even some of his fellow Circles fear to take on his techniques head on. Itan summarized it was because his fierce willpower and determination to see his family, to which impressed the 6th Circle.

Master Hand-To-Hand Combatant:

Immense Strength: Despite his advanced age, Garp still possesses tremendous physical strength, enough to effortlessly best Devil Fruit users such as Luffy. He is able to throw iron cannonballs like baseballs at speeds higher than if they were fired from an actual cannon, break through brick walls and cannon stands with his fists, and both carry and throw a gigantic ball and chain many times bigger than the Thousand Sunny. Garp also has a monstrous punching power at his disposal, with his epithet, "Garp the Fist", vouching for the tremendous power of his punches. He claimed to have crushed eight mountains during his training to face Chinjao. Enhanced with Haki, Garp could even dent Chinjao's Haki enhanced drill-shaped head, which was powerful enough to split the Jewel Ice Sheet.
